New findings are pointing towards yoga as an effective method in treating premature ejaculation ( PE ).
In the September 21, 2007 publication of The Journal of Sexual medicine, Dhikav V reviews a very interesting comparative trail.
68 patients suffering from ( PE ), from an outpatient department of psychiatry in
India participated.
38 of the patients enrolled were treated with Yoga sessions, while the other 30 were treated with flouxetine a form of
SSRIs (s
elective serotonin reuptake inhibitors).
This is an anti depressant and known treatment for rapid ejaculation.
The results were tested by the patients` intravaginal ejaculatory latency times (IELT).
In the Yoga group, three patients dropped out of the trail, complaining that the Yoga regiment was too strenuous, while 25 people had a score of good for their (IELT) and the other 13 scored fair for their (IELT).
In the flouxetine group 25 out of 30 showed significant improvements in their (IELT) scores.
In conclusion, flouxetine proved to be slightly more effective on the patients, but it is a pharmaceutical treatment. On the other hand, Yoga also proved to be effective and is a natural alternative which may be wise to consider first when treating premature ejaculation.
