Reviewing Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors ( SSRIs ) for Premature Ejaculation ( PE )

Updated Jul 23, 2007 at 6:1 EST.

In Volume 120 of the June 2007 issue of Chinese Medical Journal, WF Wang, et. al. discussed the various selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors ( SSRIs ) used to treat premature ejaculation ( PE ) in men. The meta-search project reviewed literature on the subject from January 1, 1996August 1, 2006. The literature found that several SSRIs have been studied as possible treatments for premature ejaculation ( PE ) including fluoxetine, sertraline, paroxetine, and citalopram. Varying dosages and treatment recommendations are used with these medications with mixed reviews.

Wang and colleagues believe that dapoxetine ( Priligy TM ),  may provide improvement for drug therapy for premature ejaculation ( PE ). Men with lifelong or chronic premature ejaculation ( PE ) find only moderate relief from SSRIs that need to be taken daily in order to work. Dapoxetine ( Priligy TM ) , by contrast, is an on-demand medication designed specifically to treat premature ejaculation ( PE ). Even phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors ( PDE-5 ) are not able to provide relief for many men. Wang et. al. conclude that studying medication options like dapoxetine ( Priligy TM ),  may provide the most fruitful lines of future results.
