In the 5th volume of
Clinical Neuropharmacology published in September-October 2006, MR Safarinejad reports the results of a study that compared the effectiveness of paroxetine (Paxil ® ) vs. dapoxetine. The study enrolled 340 men with premature ejaculation ( PE ) or rapid ejaculation and randomly assigned them to treatment with 60mg dapoxetine ( Priligy ™ ) daily, 20mg paroxetine daily, or daily placebo for 12 weeks.
At the end of the 12 week period, men were assessed using intravaginal ejaculatory latency time, International Index of Erectile Dysfunction ( IIED ), satisfaction domain, side effects of the drugs, and mean weekly sexual activity count. Men who used dapoxetine ( Priligy ™ ) and paroxetine reported more side effects than with placebo, although both drugs were reportedly well tolerated. Overall, men who used paroxetine daily reported increased satisfaction and longer intravaginal ejaculatory latency times than did men who used dapoxetine ( Priligy ™ ) for premature ejaculation ( PE ).
